Police Officer Believed Missing During The 2004 Aceh Tsunami, Found Alive After 17 Years

No one ever thought after years has been reported missing and might be dead, he is now found alive. That is what happened with a policeman in Indonesia when he was found in Banda Aceh Mental Hospital. This man named Bharaka Zainal Abidin is known as a member that went missing during the tsunami that hit Aceh in the year 2004.

According to the news, Asep was appointed as the security operations assistant for the Brimob Regiment II Kedung Halang Bogor Polis Aceh during the Tsunami. He was placed in Banda Aceh when there are still remnants of the group Free Aceh Movement. However, when the tsunami hit Aceh and its surroundings, Asep was reported missing.

It is understood that Asep has been a patient at the hospital since 2009 and had visited Fajar village to live there, but was not accepted by the residents, causing him to return to the hospital. However, the Aceh Regional Police said it would conduct tests on deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in advance to confirm the report.

Police Public Relations Head of Aceh, Pol Winardy confirmed the incident and the patient will undergo DNA testing, fingerprinting, and identification of birthmarks. Police are also coordinating with his family in West Java.
