Thailand’s Luxury Golf Quarantine Welcomes South Korean Travellers

The Tourism Authority of Thailand allows visitors to spend quarantine playing golf. Six resorts were approved by the government for quarantining visitors. They can also move around in the resorts and play golf.
Thailand relies a lot on the tourism industry and with the pandemic, they certainly took a big hit. The country was attempting to reopen its borders for international tourism. Thailand offers extended 90-day tourist visas which can be renewed twice. This is under the condition that anyone entering Thailand must have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure and $100,000 worth of insurance covering Covid-19.

The six resorts include three in Kanchanaburi, West of Bangkok, one in Nakhon Nayok, North of Bangkok, and one in Petchaburi, south of the Thai capital plus one in Chiang Mai.

“Golf is a major draw in Thailand’s tourist offering with more than 250 golf courses disseminated all over the country,” said Benoit Badufle, a luxury tourism expert at Horus consulting firm. “The open-air setup and private villas make the propagation of the Covid-19 less likely while attracting a high-contribution clientele.”

The lack of players on the links makes it a great time for people who can afford it to golf in peace.

Thailand has had relatively few cases of Covid-19. So far there have been 11,262 cases with 69 deaths. But the second wave and the clusters emerged in December. Thailand is struggling and wanting to save its tourism industry.

Based on the experience of 41 Korean businessmen who arrived in Thailand, we could see what is happening inside the resorts.

Heo Kwang-eum, a 66-year-old businessman is happy with Thailand’s initiative. He recommends other countries adopt the campaign. It could boost the tourism industry. Plus, improving people’s morals from being cooped up at home all the time.

“It’s extremely hard to go golfing in Korea these days because of COVID,” said Heo. He is spending another month in the country due to quarantine. “Here it’s a golf paradise.”

Served by over 100 employees, he described it as ’emperor’s golfing’.
According to the general manager of the Artitaya Country Club, the package costs THB 67,972.80 (RM9,079.84) for 16 days is considered reasonable compared to the cost of 14 days isolation period in a regular hotel room. This includes three Covid tests, daily health check-ups, and of course, golfing activities.
