Unbelievable! This Moldy-Looking Bun Is Actually A Creamy Delicacy

Some pictures of moldy bread sold on China’s Taobao online marketplace have gotten a lot of attention on social media across Asia lately, due to its unattractive appearance. Nanjing Yican Foods, a Chinese food company came out with a rather unappetizing looking product that is a matcha and cheese bun that looks like a few months past its expiration date.

Uniquely, underneath its light brown bread crust, the bun has a light green appearance that looks like the green mould that develops on stale bread. Squeezing the bun causes the matcha and cheese mixture to ooze out.

The photos were posted on a private Facebook group called Taobao Happy Share. This confused a lot of people but people shared it multiple times. The general consensus talks about the unappetising looks of the buns. But according to many testimonies and reviews f the over 500 customer reviews on Taobao, the buns are actually delicious. Many praised the softness and taste and claiming that they will ‘definitely buy again’.

The buns are ‘slightly bitter and unsweet, high-quality Japanese-style matcha buns’. The creams are a mix of Japanese green tea matcha and New Zealand powdered milk. The price is 18 yuan (RM11.40) per piece.
