‘How I Met Your Mother’ Sequel With Hilary Duff Is In The Works

One of the most beloved and innovative shows on television is the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. After ending the show in 9 seasons, the creators  Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger decided to take the show in a new direction with a sequel. But best of all, it will star the idol of 90’s teens; Hilary Duff.

The original garnered a huge fandom and is one of the most beloved on the 20th Century Fox list. The studio’s president, Kathy Burke said, “Our genius producers Isaac and Elizabeth who are—wait for it—legendary within our halls, have created a spectacular new take which both honors the original and is entirely their own. Carter and Craig will return as executive producers, and who better to star as the central character than the incredible Hilary Duff? Many thanks to Craig Erwich and everyone at Hulu Originals for loving the script as much as we did and to our fantastic team who helped put this all together. I could not be more excited. Let the speculation as to who the father is commencing!”

The story will center around new characters, primarily Hilary Duff’s Sophie. Taking on Josh Radnor’s mantel, she is telling her son the story of how she met his father. The story catapults viewers back to 2021 where she and her group of friends are trying to figure out life, love, and relationships.

Like the original, it will feature issues relating to modern-day relationships as well as nostalgic pop culture references.

The Lizzie McGuire star expressed her excitement for the role. “As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there!”

While it is great to see Duff back on the small screen, everyone’s also anticipating other aspects of the show. Details on other casts are still unknown. But we are hoping it would be just as fun if not more than the original. Another selling point is the build-up of Tracy’s character which was worth the wait despite season nine’s bad writing. Thankfully, the alternative ending helps.

Anyway, we are excited about this collaboration. Hopefully, the creators will be able to repeat the same innovation and success with this new installment.
