Naruto Director, Osamu Kobayashi Dies At Age 57

A big loss in the anime world. Osamu Kobayashi, a talented director who worked on popular anime like Naruto, has passed away at the age of 57.

According to reports, Kobayashi died on April 16, 2021. He died in the middle of a battle with kidney cancer for two years. Currently, no articles have been made public about Kobayashi’s funeral ceremony, but fans paid tribute to the director online.

For those of you who don’t know, Kobayashi is also the director of one of the popular anime BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad where it was one of his first big projects.

Since then, he has also directed anime such as Paradise Kiss, and his latest project is on Rinshi! Ekoda-chan and Dororo in 2019.

For Naruto anime, Kobayashi has a special history with it. He revives the ‘Boyhood’ arc that followed Naruto when he was a child. The arc covers episodes 480 to 483 in the Naruto Shippuden anime.

In fact, most netizens agree the ‘Boyhood’ arc is one of the best filler stories in the entire Naruto series, and its success falls towards Kobayashi.

It’s hard to underestimate his talent as an artist, and anime fans say they’ll appreciate the work Kobayashi does. Our thoughts are with Kobayashi’s loved ones during this time. May he rest in peace.
