KANGAR, April 21 — The annual Pesta Angin Timur 2021 (Easterly Wind Festival 2021) will be held virtually from June 4 to 5, said Perlis National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) director Samsuring Meli.
He said the event was expected to remain lively even though it would be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Pesta Angin Timur 2021@Online (PAT2021@Online) will be broadcast live on JKKN Facebook account and JKKN TV with members of the public can watch various interesting cultural performances regardless their locations,” he told Bernama recently.
Samsuring said the PAT2021@Online would be officiated by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man at the Perlis JKKN Auditorium on June 4.
“To maintain the standard operating procedure (SOP) of physical distancing, only 200 people will be allowed to enter the JKKN auditorium to witness the launch,” he said.
He said that during the PAT2021@Online, the public would be presented with various cultural performances including hadrah, terinai dance, Awang Batil, alu bunyi (traditional musical instrument often used during rice harvest), tarian canggung, gendang silat, gendang panjang (gendang Siam) and gendang 24 musim.
“Apart from cultural performances, JKKN will also broadcast demonstrations of making wau helang (eagle kites), customs practiced during paddy planting season, Harumanis mango planting techniques and much more,” he said.
The department also expects PAT2021@Onlinewill attract over 50,000 viewers, he said.
