(Video) ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’, A Highly Welcomed Sequel No One Expected

Lionsgate released the trailer to Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard yesterday. The movie is the sequel to the 2017 Ryan Reynold’s action-comedy Hitman’s Bodyguard starring Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek. The 2017 film earned $176 million at the box office.

In this sequel, all three main actors will reprise their roles but with a little switch. The first movie focuses on the top bodyguard, Michael Bryce (Reynolds) as he protects his client Darius Kincaid (Jackson) from his enemies. Hayek played Sonia Kincaid, Darius’s wife with a minimum role.

However, the sequel seems to be, elevating Hayek’s role and focusing more on Sonia and Michael’s relationship. The story will take place four years after the event of the first movie. The trailer shows Michael in a semi-retirement state due to his therapist’s advice. However, his vacation is cut short due to Sonia’s sudden appearance.

The first movie was a hit due to the impeccable comedic timing and Reynolds and Jackson’s great chemistry on-screen and good dynamics between the two. However, the trailer shows Hayek makes a good substitute being Reynolds’ partner in this one.

Aside from the details of the story, the trailer follows the style of Hitman’s Bodyguard trailer with the scenes edited to follow the iconic songs in the background. In the first movie, the trailer featured Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ as a reference to Houston’s movie Bodyguard – the movie about a singer’s relationship with her bodyguard. For the sequel, they use Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time” with the piano score in the background along with some slow-motion shot of Michael on a vacation. But it hits a crescendo as Sonia suddenly dragged Michael in the middle of the shootout and the trailer hit its fast-paced beat.

Antonio Banderas plays the new villain in this one. However, there is only a brief glimpse of his character in a cutaway shot. Morgan Freeman also joined the cast in an undisclosed role. His absence from the trailer is probably to keep his character as a surprise for later.
