A geologist on vacation had a terrifying encounter with an octopus in Western Australia. Lance Karlson, 34 was on a holiday with his family at a resort in Geographe Bay when he spotted a giant octopus near the beach as he was about to take a dip in the water.
This rare sight of an octopus in shallow water compels him to capture the animal on camera. But as he was recording, it suddenly throws out its tentacles.

“Oh, golly!” he says while holding his two-year-old daughter in his arms.
He later went into the water to explore a collection of crab shells. While swimming, he felt another whip across his arm – followed by a more forceful sting across his neck and upper back.
Lance raced back to the shore and soon saw raised imprints of tentacles across his arm, neck, and upper back.
He shared a photo showing the nasty-looking red markings around his neck. However, he assured everyone that he is fine.
In his video post on Instagram, he wrote the caption: “The angriest octopus in Geographe Bay! After going after a seagull it then decided my daughter and I deserved a lashing!
“I later discovered its home amongst a crab graveyard, where it came after me again!”
