YouTube Review: Most Expensive ‘Asam Pedas’ Ever Made Is Actually In Hong Kong

‘Asam Pedas’ is definitely one of the best Malay dishes that has been ever made. This is a fact because we could see not only Malaysian but the foreigners as well enjoying the ‘Asam Pedas’. According to a source, ‘Asam Pedas’ is actually a Maritime Southeast Asian sour and spicy fish stew dish.’ Asam pedas’ believed comes from Minangkabau cuisine of West Sumatra, Indonesia and has spread throughout Sumatra, Borneo and also Malay Peninsula.

Because of the love for ‘Asam Pedas’, this particular YouTube channel that goes by the name ‘iChang RM’ has recently reviewed the dish claimed to be the most expensive ‘Asam Pedas’ in the world. Surprisingly, the ‘Asam Pedas’ is located specifically in Hong Kong. The restaurant that sells it is named ‘Bibi And Baba’. Defined by color, spice and also the marriage of cultures, ‘Bibi And Baba’ represents the literal fusing of Chinese and Malay traditions.

From the ‘Bibi And Baba’ menu from the video, it can be seen that there are so many dishes that are familiar to all the Malaysian are cooked there. It is so amazing. Some of them are ‘Nyonya Laksa Lemak’, ‘Petai’, ‘Ayam Buah Keluak’, ‘Beef Rendang’, ‘Ayam Goreng Istimewa’ and many others. After a few minutes looking through the menu, the YouTuber decided to order ‘Nasi Lemak, ‘Jasmine Rice’ and the main show of the video that is ‘Asam Pedas’. Something that shock many people is that, the price of the ‘Asam Pedas’ is in total of RM154. That is insane.

Looking around the restaurant, the Youtuber stated that the surrounding can be seen like a bar style Malaysian restaurant and it looks so amazing. This restaurant really embrace the Malaysian culture in the restaurant.

After a while, the ‘Asam Pedas’ that they ordered finally arrived and it was presented in a very interesting way ever and that is in a very big bowl shaped like a fish. The Youtuber even shocked when they saw it. The guy recording it named Jimmy even said, “The most expensive dish in this restaurant” when it arrived. For the ‘Asam Pedas’, they both said that it is sour and tasty but not that spicy. Other than that, they also order ‘Kueh Platter’ because it sounded unique for them. Both of them love the ‘Kueh Platter’ the most for the taste and the presentation.
