A wedding that is supposed to be a happy ceremony for the couple took a morbid turn when the bride collapsed to her death.
In India, a bride collapsed and died before she gets to complete her wedding rituals. Instead, the family agrees that the man will marry the younger sister of the deceased. At the same time, the original bride’s soulless body is laying in the next room.
The unfortunate incident happened on the 27th of May in the village of Samaspur, located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. When the couple was exchanging traditional flower garlands during a ritual called jaimala, the bride collapsed onstage. A doctor then rushed to treat her but later declared that she had died from a heart attack.
The ceremony continued, however, but with a different bride which is the younger sister.
“It was a tough call for our family. One daughter lay dead in one room and the wedding of another daughter was being solemnized in the other room,” said the bride’s uncle.
“We have never witnessed such mixed emotions. The grief over her death and the happiness of the wedding have yet to sink in.”
In recent weeks, a last-minute wedding substitute occurred once, also in India. It was early May and a bride married a man from the groom’s wedding party after the original husband ran off his way from the ceremony. The bride’s family had no choice but to select a new groom from the groomsmen list and agreed on the decision.
