Ever Wondered Why Cats Love Boxes So Much? These Are 5 Reasons Why

This particular question has been such a famous confusion for all cat owners all over the world. Everyone already knows how much cats love boxes. You can google it in images and have a literal melt-down from all the adorable pictures of cats and boxes. Cats always have some kind of deep-rooted attraction to boxes and we want to know why.

Even if the owners have bought the cats a much more comfortable and grand house for them to live in, they would definitely choose boxes over what the owners have bought. It is any box really. Big boxes, small boxes, irregularly shaped boxes and it doesn’t matter. Cats would love that. For all of you who are still baffled, these are 5 reasons why.

1) Help Cats To Adapt

A study by the University of Utrecht showed that shelter cats who had access to boxes recovered faster and more readily adapted to their new environments. The study revealed that hiding in boxes helps reduce stressful behaviors and harmful hormone levels in our feline friends. This shows that boxes are incredibly beneficial for cats to help deal with change.

2) Cats Are Curious

Cats are notoriously curious creatures, so it should come as no surprise that whenever you buy something new they make a beeline for it to investigate. Not only does the new item smell different, but your cat is also curious to see what the purpose of the new item is in their home. If you buy an item that comes in a box, don’t be surprised to see your cat rubbing itself around it and having a good look.

3) Boxes Safe For Cats

Cats usually get comfort and also security from the enclosed spaces, which is why they love spending time in inboxes. Cats use boxes as hiding places where predators cannot sneak upon them from the side or behind. This is actually ideal for cats as their reaction to stressful situations is often to run and hide.

4) Boxes Make Great Places For Cats To Sleep

Boxes are a great place to sleep. Cats spend up to 18 hours every day sleeping, so finding the perfect spot is important. Where you may see a simple cardboard box, your cat sees a safe, luxury cave that promises warmth and protection. It is recommended to provide your cat with a box in your home to give them a safe space for them to escape to.

5) Boxes Not Just For House Cats

Big cats also share lots of the same characteristics as your pet cat. When big cats living in wildlife reserves and zoos were given cardboard boxes, they had just as much fun as your cat would. They were seen jumping in and out of the boxes, sitting in them, and generally having a great time.
