Iconic Merdeka 118 Reaches Its Peak At Level 118

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Permodalan Nasional Bhd’s (PNB) wholly-owned subsidiary, PNB Merdeka Ventures has marked a major milestone as the construction of its iconic ‘Merdeka 118’ has reached its peak at Level 118 to become the tallest building in Malaysia.

In a statement, PNB Merdeka Ventures said upon its completion in 2022, the tower would reach its full height of at least 644 metres, set to become the tallest building in Southeast Asia (SEA).

President and group chief executive Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn said the tower is currently 81 per cent completed, with the installation of the glass facade in progress at Level 108.

“Despite experiencing a delay due to restrictions from the Movement Control Order implemented last year, we are pleased that we are able to top out within our revised timeline,” he said.

The tower has over three million square feet (sq ft) of floor area, comprising 1.66 million sq ft of net lettable area (NLA) of Grade-A office space and approximately one million sqft of retail space.

A number of outstanding features have been incorporated into the tower, including ‘The View at 118’ Observation Deck, which will be the highest in SEA, as well as the first and only Park Hyatt Hotel in Malaysia, occupying the top 17 floors of the tower, PNB Merdeka Ventures said.

Additionally, the tower will offer retail opportunities via the 118 Mall, which is surrounded by the ‘Merdeka Boulevard at 118’ park that will have 1.61 hectares of greenery and open spaces for the community to enjoy, as well as three premium residential towers encircling the office tower, it said.

The Merdeka 118 precinct would also feature a textile museum with a focus on the Malay-world textile, a purpose-built childcare centre for children under seven years old and Masjid Merdeka, a new mosque with a capacity of hosting up to 3,000 people.
