Sun Bear With Vision Problem In Felda Lakum Got Rescued – PERHILITAN

The Sun Bear is a species occurring in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. It is the smallest bear, standing nearly 70 centimeters at the shoulder and weighing 25–65 kilograms. It is stockily built, with large paws, strongly curved claws, small rounded ears, and a short snout. The fur is generally jet-black but can vary from grey to red. Sun bears get their name from the characteristic orange to cream-colored chest patch. Its unique morphology inward-turned front feet, flattened chest, powerful forelimbs with large claws.

Recently, a rescuing operation was carried out following complaints from the public regarding the presence of a particular Sun Bear which was said to show abnormal movement patterns around the location where it was found.

According to the Tweet, the Pahang State Wildlife Department has successfully rescued a Sun Bear who has a vision problem in Felda Lakum, Lanchang, Pahang on the 30th of May 2021. The Sun Bear was complained to by the public right after the bear was seen to be a little bit weird then how a normal Sun Bear should behave.

The operation involved staff from the Temerloh District Wildlife Department, Jenderak Selatan Wildlife Conservation Center (PKHL), Pahang and assisted by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Lanchang Police Station, Pahang.

The Sun Bear was then transferred to the National Wildlife Rescue Center (NWRC) Sungkai, Perak for further treatment and monitoring. The Department of Wildlife would like to thank all parties involved throughout this operation.
