Using ‘Black And White Coloring Book’ As The Interior Design, This Cafe Is So Unique!

A cafe with a unique design in Moscow and Sankt Petersburg called ‘BW Kafe’ resembles the setting of the ‘Take on Me’ video by the famous A-ha. The first time this cafe made international headlines was last year when photos of the Sankt Petersburg branch grab online attention.

Russian artist Anfisa Toshina is the interior designer that makes the cafe looks sketched using charcoal on a piece of white paper. This creates the illusion that the customers are the only 3D ‘object’ in a two-dimensional world.

Undoubtedly, it’s a pretty nice trick except for the fact that the whole coloring book theme is actually nothing new. The designers of Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20 were the first to introduce them in South Korea. Since then, it has been an idea by other entrepreneurs to capitalize on the eccentric of the design. A couple of years ago, similar venues made an appearance in Japan and now, Russia. As of today, there are a lot more cafes with this kind of design. Not to mention, Cafe Yeonnam branches itself.

It may look like a replica of Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20, but it’s a good idea for those Europeans who can’t visit the South Korean cafe, due to the ongoing pandemic. They have the chance to enjoy their time in a 2D world, be it for a cup of coffee or some photoshoot for Instagram feed.
