Woman Had To Lie For 13 Years To Avoid Breaking Her Grandma’s Heart

A woman in China had to lie to her grandmother for over 13 years just to avoid breaking the old woman’s heart. She even found someone to help her with it. Chinese media recently shared the heartbreaking story of Cheng Jing, a 46-year-old woman from Xi’an who decided to deceive her own grandmother for over a decade.

Her intention was to protect her grandmother from a sad truth. She lost her grandmother recently at the age of 100 but for the last 13 years, she tried her best to make the old woman believe that her daughter was still alive.

The woman’s mother, Cheng Congrong had died in 2003 but the truth was kept from the old woman. Another woman was recruited to imitate her mother’s voice over the phone to make regular calls to the granny.

Cheng Congrong and her mother had always been very close as she is an only child and even after Cheng was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2003, she stilled called her mother regularly to let her know that she was alright. As she was fighting the battle, she knew that she didn’t have much time left so she recorded dozens of voice messages to be played to her mother. She asked her children to play with them so that the grandmother won’t be worried nor sad.

Cheng Jing obeyed her mother’s wish and after her tragic death, they kept playing the voice recordings according to the year. The voice messages worked for a while but she then realized that sooner or later, her grandmother will know about the pre-recorded messages. That is when she found Chen Weiping, a woman that can imitate her mother’s voice as closely as possible. She decided to help because she felt sorry for the old woman.

The very first phone call didn’t turn out well. Even though Chen Weiping has been practicing Congrong’s voice, the old woman noticed something wrong with her daughter’s voice. Cheng Jing had to explain that her mother had caught a cold and her voice slightly changed because of it. From that moment, the grandmother seemed to accept Weiping.

Cheng Jing’s siblings and Chen Weiping managed to maintain the lie that Chen Congrong is still alive for 13 years. The imitator would call the grandmother regularly with all sorts of excuses of why she couldn’t visit. Heart-related reasons always softened the old woman’s heart and she would ask her daughter to take care of herself. The grandchildren, on the other hand, would visit as much as they could but the grandmother would always ask for her daughter.

Recently, Cheng Jing and her family celebrated grandma’s 100th birthday where they all came to visit her. She was happy to be surrounded by the family but it was clear that she was disappointed with her daughter not coming over to see her for over a decade. Jing told her grandma that her mother was fine but couldn’t come because she was busy taking care of her daughter-in-law’s baby.

It was a tragic end to a heartbreaking story when Chen Jing’s grandmother passed away after not seeing her daughter for 13 years. While Chen Jing admits that lying to her grandmother wasn’t right but she believes that it was the best thing to do, to protect her from grief and heartbreak.
