World No.1 Shooter Hill Out of Olympics After Testing Positive For COVID-19

LONDON, July 22 — World number one skeet shooter Amber Hill of Britain has withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympic Games after testing positive for COVID-19 in the UK, announced the British delegation on Wednesday.

Hill, 23, is currently world number one in the women’s skeet shooting and regarded as a medal contender in the event in Tokyo. However, she was tested positive for COVID-19 prior to her departure for the Games, according to Xinhua.

Hill has been in self-isolation according to the UK government even though she has no symptoms.

“There are no words to describe how I’m feeling right now.” Hill was quoted by Team Britain’s official website.

“After five years of training and preparation, I’m absolutely devastated to say that last night I received a positive Covid-19 test, meaning I’ve had to withdraw from Team GB’s shooting team.”

The British delegation has confirmed that no replacement athlete will be selected in Hill’s place.

“I will be back from this, but right now I need some time to reflect and take in what has happened,” said Hill.

Earlier this month, British tennis players Johanna Konta and Dan Evans both announced their withdrawal from the Olympic Games after testing positive for COVID-19.
