Before any climber could get the chance to hike Mount Kinabalu, they would always get reminded the need of them to maintain their own discipline while they are hiking. They also got advised that they should not urinate anywhere that they feel they wanted to. But not to worry because there are also toilet facilities available at each stop hut.

This particular mountain is considered to be such a sacred place because the local community especially the Dusun, regards this mountain as the last place or burial place for the spirits of the dead. Up until this day, there are still annual rituals done to soothe the spirits and also to ask permission for the safety of all the climbers.
