Incidents of RMAF Hawk Fighter Jet Crashes, Emergency Landings Since 1996

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — Following is the chronology of incidents involving Hawk fighter jets of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) which crashed or made emergency landings since 1996.

* June 18, 1996 — A Hawk 108 crashed when conducting training flight near RMAF Air Base in Butterworth, Penang. No casualties.

* July 23, 1996 — A Hawk fighter jet crashed and exploded in a small ravine outside Labuan Airport, in Labuan. Two pilots survived

* Sept 10, 1998 — A pilot was killed when a Hawk 208 training aircraft crashed in Kuala Betis, Gua Musang, about 200 km from Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

* Oct 2 2000 — A Hawk 108 skidded while landing at Labuan Air Base in Labuan after carrying out normal flight training. Pilot survived.

* Dec 18, 2003 — Two pilots were killed when a Hawk 100 crashed in the waters of Pantai Sepat, Kuantan, Pahang.

* June 23, 2005 — A Hawk 208 fighter jet crashed in Labuan Air Base, Labuan killing its pilot.

* May 4, 2007 — A Hawk 208 crashed in Kuantan Air Base, Pahang. Pilot survived.

* June 15 2017 — A Hawk 108 was feared missing north of Kuantan between Terengganu-Pahang border after losing contact at 11.30 am. Two pilots confirmed killed in incident in a forest swamp in Cukai, Terengganu.

* Nov 16, 2021 — A Hawk 108 was involved in an incident at the runway of the Butterworth Air Base, Butterworth, Penang at 10.07 pm. One pilot survived while one was killed.
