SMART Highway Reopens Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — The SMART highway was reopened to traffic beginning at 7am today.

Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir dan Terowong Sdn Bhd (SMART) in a statement today said the process of pumping out water and cleaning the tunnel had been going on since yesterday and cleaning works were completed today.

“Inspections as well as electrical and mechanical rectifications have also been carried out to ensure that all equipment are in good and safe working condition before the SMART Highway tunnel is reopened to roadusers,” read the statement.

It said the SMART tunnel team and management would continue to conduct operational monitorings and ensure the team’s readiness in meeting any possible operational needs.

On Nov 22, the tunnel was closed following heavy rain around the capital city to activate the flood operation system and release flood waters into the SMART Highway tunnel reservoir system.
