The kidneys are actually two reddish-brown bean-shaped organs. In the human body, the kidneys can be located on the left and also right in the retroperitoneal space. The function is to receive the blood from the paired renal arteries and then the blood would exit into the paired renal veins. The kidney functions to be in the control of the volume of various body fluids, fluid osmolality, acid-base balance, various electrolyte concentrations, and removal of toxins.

For some people, the kidneys might have been damaged and not function well due to their own health conditions. That is why it is so important for everyone to take good care of their kidneys so that they would not have to face the consequences later. To those who might not know, these are 5 easy tips that you can do to take care of your kidneys.

1) Exercise

Exercise can help you to prevent health problems such as diabetes and heart disease that can cause kidney damage. Be careful, over-exercising also risks damaging your kidneys if it is not prepared. Start exercising slowly, such as 30 to 60 minutes over a period of five times a week. Do not force yourself to do high-intensity physical activity. Make sure you get the advice and also consultation of a doctor before doing any exercise if you have any health problems.

2) Salt Intake

These minerals give different effects on each individual. For some individuals, it will increase the amount of protein in their urine. Of course, the condition can be dangerous to the kidneys to become even more chronic. Excessive salt intake will also develop the risk of developing high blood pressure, kidney disease, and kidney stones. This health condition is of course painful and can result in damage to the kidneys if left untreated.

3) Eating Habit

Kidneys will process every food and also drink taken by the individual. That includes foods high in fat, salt and sugar. In the long term, this unhealthy diet will definitely lead to high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. Indirectly it increases the risk of creating other health problems that burden your kidney function. So to maintain kidney health, eat more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains and reduce the intake of processed foods.

4) Water

Water can help channel important nutrients to the kidneys and also get rid of waste to the bladder in the form of urine. Inadequate water intake will cause the function of the small filters in the kidneys can stop and risk causing infections and kidney stones. Dealing with dehydration can also damage the kidneys, especially if this condition occurs frequently.

5) Daily Habit

Unhealthy habits can affect kidney function for a long period of time. What’s more important, this habit is likely to cause damage to those organs. While smoking habits tend to increase the risk of kidney cancer and damage blood vessels. This condition will cause blood flow to slow down and affect kidney function. So the best way is to reduce or stop directly from this bad habit.
