A new type of face mask invented in South Korea that only covers the nose got the attention of the media all over the world as they claimed it to be a face accessory that was not directly effective in curbing the spread of COVID-19. The face mask is called the ‘kosk’. For those who might not know, the word is actually a combination of the Korean words ‘ko’ that would mean nose and also the word ‘mask’. It is indeed sold by the Atman company in South Korea.
It consists of two parts with one of them can be removable to leave the wearer’s mouth exposed. The face mask is designed and also suggested to provide the wearer’s protection against COVID-19 while the wearer is eating. It can also be worn on the nose at any time. Even though the design is practical, the claimed protection is very doubtful.
Until now, ‘kosk’ face masks are only sold in the country that is South Korea and the fame of these masks has also invited controversy in the western media. To contradict what people are saying that this mask is not efficient, a lot of studies have found that the nose is an easy route for the COVID-19 virus to enter the human body. Due to that, many health experts believe that wearing a nasal mask like this ‘kosk’ one is way better than those who not wearing it at all.
Just for information, ‘kosk’ face masks are said to have a five-star rating on South Korean shopping platform that is Coupang. For those who wanted to buy, a pack of 10 ‘kosk’ face masks is sold at a price of 9,800 won (RM34.18).
