(Video) Once Happened In 1969, Niagara Falls Dried Up Without Any Water

Some people might not know about this but the Niagara Falls specifically the American side of the falls had once completely dried up without any running water in the year 1969 and it is due to the water flow had been diverted by engineers. This had been going on for several months at that time and a huge change could be seen for the scenery.

According to a statement on Niagara Falls Museums, “On this occasion, the American Falls have dried artificially, to permit geological studies of the face of the Falls”. Drying of Niagara Falls did not occur due to natural phenomena or even because of any tragedies, but it was with a reason behind it. Nevertheless, it was a once-in-a-lifetime scene.

Separation Of Niagara Falls

It is actually not the entire Niagara Falls that got dried up with no water but it is just the American side of it. Niagara Falls consists of three waterfalls and that is the American Falls, the Horseshoe Falls, and also the Bridal Veil Falls. It could be clearly seen that the Horseshoe Falls is on the side of Canada while the American Falls is obviously on the American side and they are separated by Goat Island. Lastly, the Bridal Veil Falls would be on the side of America.

Reasons For The Cutting Off Water

Dried up the American side of Niagara Falls was actually for study purposes. A geological survey of the falls’ rock face was needed to be conducted by the Army Corps of Engineers when they are concerns arise that the rock face would become more and more destabilized by the erosion that happened throughout the years. Smart of them for the plan.
