NASA Confirms More Than 5,000 Exoplanets Beyond Our Solar System

NASA

NASA has confirmed that more than 5,000 exoplanets have been confirmed outside our solar system.

Stated last Monday, the latest addition of 65 exoplanets to NASA’s Exoplanet Archive contributes to the scientific achievement.

For information, this archive is home to exoplanet discoveries from peer-reviewed scientific papers. And, it has been validated using a variety of methods to track planets.

“It’s not just a number.

“Each one of them is a new world, a brand-new planet. I get excited about everyone because we don’t know anything about them, ”said Jessie Christiansen. She is the science lead for the NASA Exoplanet Archive. And also, a research scientist with the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute at Caltech, said in a statement.

NASA’s Various Exoplanet Features

Interestingly, these so-called exoplanets include rocky worlds about the size of Earth, gas giants larger than Jupiter and “mini-Neptunes.”

Scientists have also discovered planets that orbit more than one star and some even surround the remnants of dead stars called white dwarfs.

Currently, of the confirmed exoplanets, 30% are gas giants, 31% are super-Earth, and 35% are like Neptune. Only 4% are terrestrial or rocky planets like Earth or Mars.

Previously, NASA had made an achievement where they managed to land on Mars last year.

NASA’s Perseverance rover touched down safely on Mars. It will search Jezero Crater for signs of ancient life on Mars. Also, to collect samples that will eventually be returned to Earth.
