KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Bernama) — The country’s official news agency, the Malaysian National News Agency celebrates its 55th anniversary today.
The anniversary celebration organised simultaneously with Bernama Adilfitri Open House celebration will be held in the compound of Wisma Bernama here.
The event will be attended by Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Bernama Board of Governors chairman Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, Bernama editor-in-chief Khairdzir Md Yunus, senior officials and retirees
Bernama was established under an Act of Parliament on April 6, 1967, and was officially launched on Aug 30, 1967, in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence. It became fully operational on May 20, 1968.
The agency which first started its operation from a four-bedroom bungalow at No. 222, Jalan Pekeliling, Kuala Lumpur with only 20 staff, now has its own 15-storey building with a staff strength of over 1,000.
For over five decades of its establishment under the Parliament Act 1967, Bernama has served based on the objective of its establishment which is to provide, disseminate news and information accurately, fairly and equitably in safeguarding national interests.
Meanwhile, the Bernama Aidilfitri Open House has been organised simultaneously with the anniversary celebration to further strengthen relationship and as a show of appreciation to all staff, clients and strategic partners for their efforts and support.
The 500 guests at the event also include Communications and Multimedia Ministry top management staff, Bernama Supervisory Council members, Board members and retirees.
The event is jointly organised by the various departments, Bernama Staff Club, Bernama Employees Union (KPPB) and Persatuan Suri dan Anggota Wanita Bernama (BENITA) as well as Uxera (a subsidiary of Bernama).
