Japan Reopen Borders To International Tourists, First Time In Two Years

ANKARA, June 10 (Bernama) — Japan reopen its borders for international tourists on Friday after a two-year closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local media said.

The government resumed issuing tourist visas for 98 countries and regions. Including the US, Britain, China, South Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand for guided tours.

Authorities are planning to resume full-scale arrivals of tourists from around the world by the end of this month.

“We will make efforts to restore tourism demand by balancing anti-virus measures, and social and economic activities.” Transport and Tourism Minister Tetsuo Saito said. Next week will be the arrival of the first group of tourists.

Japan gradually eased COVID-19 restrictions for international travelers this March. When Japan reopen borders for businessmen, students, and Japanese citizens.

Before the COVID-19 outbreak in late 2019, Japan had set a target of 40 million foreign visitors. And it is for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which were later postponed until 2021.

Before this in 2020, Japan’s government has a plan to allow travelers from 4 countries. That is Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, and New Zealand for the upcoming months.

At that time, travelers from those 4 countries may enter Japan if tested negative COVID-19. But, in two separate tests. And that are upon departure from their home country and when arrive in Japan.
