Hatten Land Strengthens Digital Presence In Asia As A Strategic Partner Of SMART MELAKA BLUEPRINT 2035

SMB2035 is a strategic document prepared by the State Government of Melaka, in collaboration with Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), and  it serves as a guide for Melaka digital transformation while maintaining its unique rich cultural heritage and an inclusive, vibrant and thriving economy. As part of the official launch, the Group has signed a strategic alliance with MICTH to collaborate together under SMB2035, focusing on sustainable and smart cities development. MICTH has been entrusted by the State Government of Melaka to implement the technology development and to drive the State of Melaka towards digital economy strategy. Starting with ElementX, which is a pivot initiative from a private company to make SMB2035 a success. 

In addition, the Group has announced the pre-launch of SMIC 2022 which will be held from 7-9 December 2022 is jointly organised with MICTH; for the global technology and innovation community. Over a 3-day period of panel discussions, webinars, exhibitions, and interactive activities, SMIC 2022 aims to bring together leaders, leading academics, practitioners, entrepreneurs, innovators and investors, catalysing meaningful collaborations across different fields and markets in the area of smart cities, urban solutions, and emerging sustainable technologies. 

Creating a blueprint for the future of smart and connected communities in Malaysia to embrace economic, social and environmental sustainability

In the smart city spectrum, Hatten Land has signed a MOU with Malaysia Smart City Alliance Association (MSCA) to collaborate on smart cities initiatives in Malaysia. Located within the prime and strategic locations in Melaka, Malaysia, the Group’s properties current development portfolio comprises five integrated mixed-use development projects and retail mall. Hence, there are significant opportunities to work together with MSCA to test and deploy smart city technologies and innovations within Hatten Land’s property assets.

Setting its sights on becoming a proponent of Esports globally, Hatten Land ties up with government-linked organisations and prominent companies in various Esports and phygital initiatives at ElementX

For Hatten Land’s joint venture with Focus Media Sports, which is a subsidiary of Focus Media, which is China’s largest commercial media group that is listed on the main board of Shenzhen Stock Exchange with a current market capitalization of approximately SS$17 billion, the joint venture will offer a first-of-its-kind immersive, Esports and phygital sporting experience in Southeast Asia, the Immersive Esports Hub will be one of the anchor tenants at ElementX, occupying more than 90,000 square feet of retail space that will be conceptualised with a family-oriented entertainment environment, bonding family members and friends together, thereby attracting more footfall to ElementX.

Mr. Li Hui, Executive Chairman, Founder and CEO of Focus Media Sports, said: “Over the past two years, we have seen Esports and interactive sporting activities become key drivers in attracting footfall to shopping malls as families and friends bond together from such fun and entertaining activities.

In the area of Esports, Hatten Land is collaborating with Melaka Esports Association (MEA), which is a registered sports body established under the Sport Development Act 1997 (Act 576). As a state level national body, MEA has been facilitating and promoting official Esports activities in Melaka, so as to improve the local Esports ecosystem, enhance public awareness and inspire homegrown talents. Notably, MEA has organised various official Esports tournament for popular Esports titles such as “Mobile Legends”, “PUBG”, “FIFA”, among others. 

Muhammad Hamka Bin Mohd Ali, President of MEA, said: “As the official national qualifier organisers for various Esports titles, we are pleased to partner with Hatten Land and its national-standard Esports arena at ElementX, where we will be organising national qualifiers for 2 major Esports titles, Mobile Legends and PUBG. In addition to that, we will be focused on developing athletes to participate in MESF Liga Emas. 

Esports provides a platform for gamers to master their passions and develop tangible opportunities for stakeholders. Together we aim to jointly pursue initiatives to develop a vibrant and world class Esports ecosystem where both the private and public sector can work together to enhance Malaysia’s status within the global Esports market.”

To enhance the experience further, Hatten Land has signed with KITAMEN to use their collective resources and networks to promote Esports and work together with Hatten Edge in specific Esports-related activities and pursue Esports-related business opportunities within Southeast Asia. Since 2017, KITAMEN has organized more than 100 Esports events nationwide, attracted more than 2 million gamers aged between 13 and 35 years old, and collaborated with several local community partners to create a strong base of Esports enthusiast in Malaysia.

Through our partnership with Hatten Land, we are able to scale up the scope of our activities in Malaysia’s Esports market by providing a conducive environment for championship, camps, and qualifying tournaments with ElementX’s Esports infrastructure. This will allow us to create more engaging and diverse communities for the growing number of players in the country.”

MOONTON Games and Hatten Land to Jointly Develop and Transform ElementX mall and Hotel in Melaka into the World’s First Mobile Legends: Bang Bang themed Integrated Esports Hub at ElementX

Developed by MOONTON Games, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (“MLBB”) has more than one billion downloads globally with a consistent player base of 100 million monthly active users and it is the number 1 multiplayer online battle arena game in Southeast Asia.

Since the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (“SEA Games”), Mobile Legends has been featured in successive SEA Games as a medal event. In May 2022, the SEA Games’ Mobile Legends event amassed around 2.2 million concurrent viewers at its peak, during the grand final match between Indonesia and the Philippines, setting a new viewership record at the 31st SEA Games.

According to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates, total gross revenue of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has surpassed US$500 million in 2020 with user spending of US$214.1 million in 2019. Malaysia has proven to be MLBB’s most lucrative market, with players there spending US$87.5 million in the game, or 17 percent of total revenue. Indonesia ranked No. 2 for player spending, generating US$69.2 million, or 14 percent of the total, while the United States was No. 3, racking up US$64.1 million, or 12.8 percent of all revenue.

Under the partnership agreement, MOONTON Games and Hatten Land will jointly develop and transform ElementX mall and hotel in Melaka into the world’s first MLBB-themed Integrated Esports Hub. 

With multiple giant-sized displays of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang characters and eye-catching MLBB-themed façade and interior designs, the world’s first Mobile Legends: Bang Bang-themed Integrated Esports Hub aims to create experiential interactions and an immersive environment for players and fans.

Located along the straits waterfront and on prime acreage within a historic city centre listed as UNESCO World Heritage City, ElementX encompasses gross floor area of 1.88 million square feet of retail and entertainment space spanning across 13 floors, aimed at attracting experienced gamers and those who are new to Esports and Metaverse. 

Positioned as Southeast Asia’s first large-scale integrated Esports experiential hub, Metaverse gateway and themed award-winning hotel accommodation, Hatten Land has also signed various agreements with established partners (such as Focus Media, KITAMEN and MELAKA ESPORTS ASSOCIATION, etc) in Metaverse, Esports, mobile gaming and digital-related experiences.

Developing a roadmap of educational innovations to keep up with the future needs of a digital economy

Recognising that education is an important component of social and economic growth, Hatten Land has continued to place emphasis on education-related collaborations and partnerships. 

Together with Revo-Stem Center Sdn. Bhd. (“RSC”), the Group will be setting up a STEM education centre at ElementX to promote and increase awareness of STEM among students via cutting edge technology and innovative learning programs.

Mohd Arrif bin Abdul Majid, Director of RSC, said: “Leading to a tech-oriented digital age, it is vital for the future generations to have greater interest and understanding for STEM education.

Separately, Hatten Land has entered into a strategic alliance with Stamford College (Malacca) Sdn. Bhd. (“SCM“) to create a unique Stamford 3D campus within Hatten Land’s Metaverse, WorldX, and organise education sessions and events for SCM students at WorldX.

Harnessing new opportunities in the digital economy with blockchain technology collaboration

As part of its digital vision, Hatten Land aims to embrace web3.0 and adopt technology to allow business communities to compete and thrive in their marketplaces. On this front, the Group has signed a collaboration with MX Global Sdn. Bhd. (“MX Global”) on blockchain technology for business applications. MX Global is a Kuala Lumpur-based fintech company with a mission to create a highly accessible and secure cryptocurrency trading platform that allows merchants, consumers, and traders to transact cryptocurrencies.
