Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Recognised As Employers’ Preferred University In Talentbank’s Graduate Employability Survey

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (“HWUM”) has been recognized as one of Talentbank’s Employers’ Preferred Universities in the recent National  Graduate Employability Index (“GE Index”).

The GE Index which measures the employability rate of graduates from Higher Education  Institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia, is based on surveys conducted with the nation’s top employers,  including Top Glove Corporation Bhd (“Top Glove”), Microsoft, IBM, Motorola, PETRONAS,  Shell Malaysia, Shopee Malaysia, and others.

The latest GE Index awarded HWUM several 5-Star and 6-Star Employability Ratings as  below:

  1. 6-Star Employability Rating: Mathematics and Statistics, and Quantity Survey.
  2. 5-Star Employability Rating: Accounting, Actuarial Science, Chemical Engineering,  Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and  Marketing.

The GE Index survey included questions on employers’ most preferred HEIs, the number of graduates they employ, and if they would continue to hire graduates from the same institutions.

HWUM Provost and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, said: “We’re proud to be recognized by Talentbank and the nation’s top graduate employers’ as a preferred  University for future-ready graduates. Not only does it reaffirm our decade of impact in  Malaysia, but it also reaffirms our commitment to continue delivering world-class programs with a global outlook to prepare today’s youth with skills needed by the world’s economic  drivers.”

Around 95% of the University’s graduates find employment or continue their education within  six months of graduation.

Top Glove Managing Director, Mr. Lim Cheong Guan, said: “Congratulations to Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) on this well-deserved recognition. As a homegrown  employer of choice with a strong culture of ‘Must Know, Must Do, Must Teach’, Top Glove is  privileged to partner with a university that shares our focus on developing future-ready talents.  Over the years, Top Glove has had the opportunity to work with several HWUM interns as well  as graduates, and our experience has always been very positive. We are pleased to be part  of their learning journey and look forward to continuing working with good universities like  Heriot-Watt to nurture more talents for the sustained success of our company and country”.

Malayan Banking Berhad Executive Vice President and Head of Talent Attraction, Workplace Futurisation and GHC Sustainability, Ms. Sophia Ang, said: “We find HWUM  graduates are highly resourceful and solution-oriented. We have had a few graduates in the  Global Maybank Apprentice Programme (GMAP) among the hundreds of HWUM alumni in the Bank, and they have proven themselves repeatedly by how they’ve stood out and continue  to rise above, among the many projects that we have challenged them with. We are also  looking forward to welcoming more HWUM graduates who have recently secured their offers  to join us in a couple of weeks.”

“We wish to thank our industry partners and professional bodies, who have played a key role in ensuring that we continue to deliver high-quality education tailored to the needs of businesses and industries and accredited to ensure career-relevant education. All of this supports us in our efforts to nurture leaders who are driven by a sense of purpose, who are highly employable, and who can positively impact communities and the global economy,”  added Professor Mushtak.

The University, through its portfolio of programs that are carefully tuned to the needs of the  Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) and its graduates, will continue to promote education,  research, and innovation.

HWUM remains committed to nurturing purpose-driven leaders through its ‘Positive Education’  approach.
