Hugh Jackman To Return As Wolverine In Upcoming Deadpool Movie

Hugh Jackman is set to return as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool movie, releasing on September 6, 2024. Ryan Reynolds, actor who plays Deadpool, confirmed it on his social media accounts in a 1 minute 20 second video.

“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ film for a good long while now,” Reynolds said in the video.

“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside.”

“And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”

After that Reynolds said, “Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” as Hugh Jackman walks by in the background, confirming the actor involvement in the movie.

The video ends with the popular Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” – with subtitles appearing as “I Will Always Love Hugh”.  Watch the full announcement below.

Hugh reprising his role

The last time Hugh Jackman appeared as Wolverine is in the 2016 R-rated “Logan,” directed by James Mangold. The movie conclusion saw the death of Wolverine.

Jackman stated that Logan would be his final appearance as Wolverine. Even when Disney officially purchased the rights to the X-Men again, he commented of his desire for fresh performers to take up the claws.

Both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have are not new in the superhero genre. The first “X-Men” spinoff to centre on Jackman’s character was 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which the “Deadpool” actor starred in.

However, in that version, Deadpool’s lips was stitched shut, and he was not dressed in his signature red and black. Some years later, in an R-rated version of “Deadpool,” Reynolds reprised his role as the witty assassin.
