Never Believes It? What You Should Know About These Acne Myths

Acne myths that you should not believe. Acne is often associated with an individual’s lifestyle habits, poor condition, imbalanced diet, and pollution. Thus, there are many incorrect myths that appear from these associations regarding it.

For those who do not know, here we share some of the myths that many people believe about acne.

Oily Food And Make-Up

Some people think that eating oily food can cause acne. This is actually a myth. According to a dermatologist, Dr. Shah, high glycaemic index food (high sugar) is the one that can cause and worsen it. Another myth is wearing make-up causes acne. Dr. Chris T. debunked this myth by stating that make-up does not cause it. However, it will cause acne if you leave it on for too long.

No Acne After Reaching Adulthood

Some people also believe that they will only have it during their teens and will stop having it after reaching adulthood. Results from surveys have shown that people are still getting acne in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. Individuals in their adulthood might still suffer from Hormonal, and Adult-onset Acne.

Stress Causes Acne?

When facing with a person with breakouts, they usually ask if the person is stressed. But, is their assumption true? It’s false. In some studies, even though some college students have more breakouts during finals, it’s hard to determine if stress is the cause of increased breakouts.

“Do You Wash Your Face Or Not?”

People are often baffled by the question: “Do you wash your face or not?”. A dermatologist, Amy Derick says that “studies in teens show that washing your face twice a day is more effective than just once, but more than that isn’t necessary and can dry out your skin”.

Popping Pimples Can Solve It Quicker

People often mistake popping pimples can solve them quicker. Another dermatologist, Dr. Aanchal debunked this myth by saying that “you should absolutely not pop whiteheads, blackheads or acne.

Doing so will push the infection deeper, leading to dark spots and even scarring. “But there is some truth to this. We, at the clinic, do drain pus-filled acne to help in faster healing. It has to be done with a sterile needle at a proper depth,”.
