The passing of Queen Elizabeth II marks a new era of monarchy in Britain. The Queen’s first son, Prince Charles, will ascend the throne. Prince Charles will take on the title King Charles III.
Quoting BBC, Prince William will inherit his father, King Charles III, the title of Duke of Cornwall. Prince William and Kate have become Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge. As the heir of the throne, Prince William will not immediately inherit the title Prince of Wales. King Charles III will have to bestow the title to him.
The king’s wife, Camilla, becomes the Queen Consort – a name given to the spouse of the monarch.
Additionally, King Charles III is likely to take up the throne officially this Saturday, at St James’s Palace in London. King Charles III’s coronation will not likely happen right after Charles’s accession, as the coronation needs time to prepare
Buckingham Palace announce the news of the death of UK’s highest royal family, Queen Elizabeth II, earlier this morning.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”
“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” written in a statement by the Royal Family Twitter account.
United Kingdom (UK) will go through a 10-day mourning period as a final sign of respect to the late queen.
In an earlier statement, Queen Elizabeth II was said to be suffering from deteriorating health problems and put under the supervision of the palace medical team.
The Queen held the throne for 70 years before passing, making it the longest-serving monarchy in Britain’s history. Queen Elizabeth II took the throne in 1952 at the young age of 25, right after the end of World War 2.
