Continued Rain Warning For The Northern Peninsular Malaysia Remains Until 17 October – KASA

YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr Zaini Ujang, the secretary general of the Minister of Environment and Water of Malaysia (KASA), issued a statement about the weather forecast for the northern states in Peninsular Malaysia on 16 October 2022, Sunday at 8 pm.

KASA is determined to give the latest and most reliable updates on the weather forecast nationwide.

Important points from KASA’s weather forecast statement are:

1. KASA warned of continuous rain at 11.45 am on 16 October 2022. The forecast is applicable from the stated date until 17 October 2022 in Perlis and Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena and Padang Terap). Even so, the weather in Langkawi and the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia is expected to regress gradually as less rain is predicted the next day.
2. Kedah experienced continuous rain from the early morning of 16 October 2022. The total accumulated rain is the highest from 8 am to 9 am in Perlis, with 99.1 mm/hour. Around 10 am, in the north, the rain subsided.
3. However, MET Malaysia released another heavy rain warning at 11.45 am for Kedah and Perlis. A thunderstorm warning is issued for Perak at 2.40 pm. The weather regressed in the north at 2 pm on 16 October 2022. Yet, the heavy rain warning at the northern peninsular is applicable until 17 October 2022 (Monday).
4. Furthermore, some areas in Langkawi are affected by the flood at 8 am. Impacted places are Kg. Kilim (Galeria Perdana), Kg. Ayer Hangat (Telaga Air Hangat), Kg. Sungai Itau, Kampung Bohor Merah, Kg. Teluk Yu, Kg. Bukit Kemboja, Kg. Penarak and Kg. Titi Changwang. The continuous rain in the upstream area and the hill’s runoff water cause the sudden surge of water in Telaga Tujuh’s waterfall.
5. As of 6.30 pm, affected places by the flood are Pasar Awam Padang Matsirat, Kg. Bohor Masjid, Kg. Nyior Chabang, Kg. Atas Padang Matsirat with a deepness of 0.3 – 0.5 metres. Thankfully, the water level is decreasing.
6. In addition, as of 6.30 pm, KASA warns the rapid increase of water level at Kedah (station at Sungai Melaka in Padang Mat Sirat, Langkawi) is at a dangerous level. The water trend decreases. Other affected places in Kedah are Sungai Melaka in Bukit Kemboja, Langkawi, and Sungai Anak Bukit in Jambatan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kota Setar. These places also show a decreasing water trend level.

9. Everyone in the affected areas has to abide by the rescue team’s dos and don’ts. They also encourage everyone to prepare for further notice about the unexpected weather change from time to time. Hence, if the water level increases dangerously, they need to evacuate to the designated centers immediately.
