King Charles III Coronation Will Take Place On May Next Year

King Charles III’s coronation will happen on Saturday, May 6 2023. The highly esteemed event will occur at Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace announced.

The Archbishop of Canterbury will conduct the ceremony. The ceremony will crown King Charles III as King of England.

“The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

Charles will anoint with holy oil , before the orb, sceptre, and coronation ring will passed on to him. As is customary, Camilla will also anoint the holy oil. Camilla will become the Queen Consort alongside her husband, the palace announced.

After 70 years in power, the Palace has announced that the celebration will honour both the past and the future in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.

There have been rumblings that the coronation may lack the glitz of Queen Elizabeth II’s 1953 coronation, which lasted for three hours. A total  of around 8000 people attended the Queen’s coronation ceremony in 1953.

The next King’s goal to reduce the size and expense of the monarchy is consistent with a less lavish coronation. The guest list for the King’s coronation was reportedly around 2000 people.

The crowning of King Charles, who will be 74 years old, will be the oldest ever for a new king. The day coincide, his grandson Archie, Harry and Meghan’s son, birthday.

Westminster Abbey in London has been the site of coronations for more than 900 years, and the ritual that takes place there is a blend of religious and constitutional symbolism.
