Listen To The Expressions of Loved Ones With Empathy, Here’s What You Should Do

To be a good companion, we must always be there for our loved ones during difficult times. Sometimes, the burden they have to lift is too much for them to carry alone.

Therefore, it is not difficult to lend your shoulder and ear. They do not ask much. All they want is for you to listen.

@KKM Portal MyHealth shared on Twitter about the dos and don’ts when your loved ones are sharing their problems.

What you should do:

1) Give your loved ones your full attention
2) React when they tell share their problems with you
3) Make it known that their feelings are valid. For instance, tell them, “It’s okay / I understand. You must have gone through a lot.”
4) Spare them some time. Do not rush them to tell you the problems
5) Use simple but polite words when reacting to them

What you should not do:

1) Make yourself the subject. Do not compare their problems to yours
2) Make assumptions about their problems
3) Cut them off while they are still talking
4) Judge them

The above dos and don’ts may look easy to accomplish. However, many people do not realize what they are doing. Some may belittle their loved one’s problems and blame them for the cause of the problem.

To everyone who is going through tough times, please TALK!
For those chosen ones with whom people share their problems, please do the right thing to help them.

T – Tell the problems to someone you trust
A – Ask for help
L – Listen without judgment
K – Know where to seek help

Let’s help one another. Let’s be there for each other.
