An ophthalmologist recently went viral after releasing a video of herself extracting 23 lost contact lenses from a patient’s eye.

According to Oddity Central, Dr. Katerina Kurteeva shared a video on Instagram last month in which she extracts several contact lenses from the eye of a patient.

Kurteeva claims to have extracted no less than 23 contact lenses from the eye of her elderly female patient. She believed the contact lenses had been there for months or even years.

Captioned “Don’t sleep in your contact lenses!,” the video shows Dr. Kurteeva extracting dozens of old lenses from behind an elderly woman’s eye one by one with a q-tip. After spending an extended amount of time inside the eye, some of the lens looked to have developed a green hue.

“I have carefully separated all the contact lenses and counted a total of 23. I had to use a very fine surgical instrument, a jeweler forceps to separate the contact lenses,” the ophthalmologist wrote on her Instagram. “They were essentially glued together after sitting under the eyelid for a month.”

Most people couldn’t believe someone could live with so many contact lenses in their eye. They also wondered how the contact lenses got there. Dr. Kurteeva said her patient always forgot she had contact lenses on when she went to bed and kept on putting on new ones.
