The Thaiger reported that a 9-year-old boy was shot and killed while working in cornfield in Thailand. According to her mother, her son had been working to save up some money to buy a toy that his family couldn’t afford.

The victim’s mother told Thai media that her family comes from poor background. The woman explained that both her and her husband have had jobs in the past. However, they frequently go for extended periods of time without any opportunities for employment.

What makes it more heartbreaking is, the victim’s mother explained that her son wanted a remote-control car toy that costs 300 baht (RM37.57). But, she couldn’t afford it. Her son inquired her on how long would it take him if he saves 20 baht (RM2.50) in order to purchase the toy. Her mother then told him it would take approximately 20 days.

His mother added that her son would go out into the paddy fields and rivers to sell crabs that he caught. The victim then secured a job in a cornfield and was paid 20 baht (RM2.50).

According to The Thaiger, the incident happened when a ping-pong bomb that the victim found exploded, killing him.  However, autopsy results from a hospital showed that the boy had been killed by a spring gun and not a ping-pong bomb.

The investigating officer found a spring gun, used to catch and kill animals at the scene. In addition, the officer is currently questioning witnesses and gathering evidences to determine what actually happened.
