Well, it might be a bit complicated considering the people living in the city and rural areas. However, don’t underestimate Sarawakians because they’re similar to every Malaysian— they live in houses too!

Sarawak isn’t the secluded and obsolete state as seen in many dramas or movies. Like other states in Malaysia, Sarawak also has tall buildings, displaying its modernity and development.
As Thaqib said, Kuching (the capital city of Sarawak) is a Bandaraya (city) and not Kampungraya (village). Capital cities everywhere hold the busiest and most rapid evolution in a state. Hence, we need to discard the myth that Sarawak isn’t as developed as other states in Malaysia.

It’s not surprising that Sarawak is one of the richest states in Malaysia. Its natural resources, especially gas, timber and palm oil, these aspects contribute to Sarawak’s economy.

Moreover, Thaqib urges Malaysians to learn more about this state (along with Sabah) as they belong to Malaysia.
It’s a bit saddening that people tend to forget that Sarawak and Sabah are a part of Malaysia. Many acts as if these Borneo states don’t belong to us, even though we live under the same sky.
What can we do about this?
TV stations in Malaysia should step up their game by producing more shows displaying the beauty of Sarawak. In addition, directors and creative writers could create documentaries focusing on the people of Sarawak and their rich heritage.
Sarawakians also should use their social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and others to promote their wonderful state not only to Malaysians but to the world.
Don’t turn a blind eye to this unique and beautiful state. Sarawak and Sabah are a part of Malaysia. Don’t forget!
