Indiana Jones TV Series In Development, May Release On Disney+

While fans wait for the fifth film, it appears that more Indiana Jones adventures will be available on Disney+ as a television series.

Variety reports that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to create a new live-action Indiana Jones series for Disney+.

While there is no details of show, it might include anything from a prequel set in the adventurous archeologist’s childhood (like The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles) to a spinoff that furthers the franchise’s name recognition.

There are rumours that the company’s creative coalition is on the hunt for a writer to help shape the next streaming show for the small screen. Moreover, it is unknown whether Harrison Ford will be apart of the show.

With Harrison Ford’s expected departure from Lucasfilm fast approaching, the studio has begun developing a new Indiana Jones show for Disney+. Steven Spielberg and James Mangold has said that the fifth film is designed to be his swan song.

Even Harrison Ford has indicated at D23 2022 this is his last time appearing in the role of the famed archaeologist, thus it seems certain that this film will be his last. Due to this, it’s clear that the chances of Ford appearing in the TV series are slim.

A long-time icon

Indiana Jones is a cultural icon. Ford played him in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. George Lucas and Philip Kaufman created the iconic character and Steven Spielberg directed the first four Star Wars films. The four movies have made $1.3 billion globally.

Not surprisingly, Disney wants an Indiana Jones TV series. They have spent years using its best-known IP to construct its streaming platform. Disney+ features various live-action Star Wars shows, including The Mandalorian. Other Future Disney+ shows like Willow and  The Muppets Mayhem are further examples.
