Morocco’s Victory Over Belgium Erupted Riots In Brussels

On Sunday, Morocco gained victory after defeating Belgium in the World Cup match. However, Belgium football fans started a riot in Brussels, and the police had to act “harshly.”

The mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close, argued that real fans would not do such a thing. He mentioned, “Those are not fans. They are rioters.”

The riot was very intense. The rioters were showing violence that the police had no other option than to seal off parts of the city. According to DW, the riots did not only begin after the game ended. Nevertheless, even before the game ended, there were confrontations with the police.

It was reported that dozens of people, some of them wearing hoodies, were threatening the public’s safety. The rioters smashed the shop windows, threw explosives, and flipped and burned some vehicles.

The police had to deploy water cans to stop the rioters’ actions. Besides that, the police also fired tear gas to control the chaotic scenes.

According to Mirror, Ilse Van de Keere, a policeman, revealed that police had to interfere with the scenes as a person got injured in the face due to fireworks set by the rioters.
