Everyone can obtain a title after studying for three years or more. Some only need to take an assessment that covers several months. All the steps taken into account are to improve skills and give the person an advantage in “selling” themselves in the field in which they are highly expert.

The title of Ts. differs from Dr. because the way to get it is different. Someone can obtain the title of Dr. after pursuing a doctoral degree for three years and above.
MBOT is the professional body that awards the title to technologists and skilled technologists. MBOT is the Malaysia Board of Technologists.
This lecturer, who prefers to be addressed as Cik Nur, tells her experience about an emcee who has difficulty calling the title Ts. one of the panelists for an event at the university. Then, without having enough time to ask the organizer further, the emcee mistakenly said Ts. as Tan Sri instead of technologist.

How to get certified by MBOT?
To get the qualification put the title of Ts. in front of your name; you need to:
- Graduate in the field that is related to technologist (at least obtain a bachelor’s degree for three years and above in a related field)
- Going through some assessments including CV, essay, interview, and payment for a processing fee to get the title.
