Football fever has yet to subside with the upcoming Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. Football fans can expect another series of intense matches, suspenseful moments and sweet victories from the Women’s World Cup.
Another exciting thing about this is the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) appoints Heba Saadia, a Palestinian referee, as part of the arbitration staff in the World Cup matches!
Who is Heba Saadia?
FIFA published the list of international referees participating in the 2023 Women’s World Cup management. Heba, a Palestinian, was the first in her country to partake in the tournament!
Last February, Heba participated in the arbitration of the Asian Women’s Cup in India. She participated for the first time at a professional level of international tournaments through the Maurice Revelo tournament in 2022 for men.
Not only that, but Heba also joined the arbitration card in the 2022 AFC Cup. It was held in Vietnam last June.
2023’s Women’s World Cup enters its ninth edition
The ninth edition of the championship is the first in history to be co-organized by two countries, Australia and New Zealand.
Additionally, it is also the first in which 32 teams are participating. This is different from 2019 when only 24 teams joined.
Being the first Palestinian woman referee to arbitrate a prestigious tournament is an achievement to be proud of! This opens the doors to many women of different races and religions to be a part of important things in the world!
Congratulations to Heba! We hope you will carry out your duty responsibly!
