Twitter Recently Relaunched @TwitterBlue, But What Is This ‘Golden Tick’ We See Now?

Twitter relaunched its @TwitterBlue on Monday, where users could subscribe on the web for $8 per month or on iOS for $11 per month.

The benefit of this subscription is you’ll get unlimited access to subscriber-only features. And this includes the blue checkmark beside your name.

Other upcoming benefits for @TwitterBlue subscribers will get are:

  • Prioritised tweets from verified users to avoid scams and spam.
  • See half the ads.
  • Post longer videos.
  • Early access to any new features.

Heads up! @TwitterBlue users can change their handle, display name and profile photo but will temporarily lose the blue checkmark. This is because Twitter is viewing your account again. No worries, however! You’ll get the blue mark again after the process ends!
So, we’ve known a little bit about the blue checkmark. But what’s with the gold and grey tick we see on some accounts?

Who gets the gold checkmark?

Interestingly, the gold checkmark is for business accounts!
Musk previously explained, “Gold check [is] for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.”
Additional information: Grey check is for government and multi-lateral accounts. Before this, every official handle had blue ticks. Now, some have gold checkmarks instead (according to the nature of their account).
But because of the blue, gold and grey marks launched by the app, many imposter accounts are resurfacing. Thus, Twitter had to suspend the subscription service last month. Even though it was scheduled to relaunch on November 29, it was delayed.
We’re curious to see what Twitter will do next. Perhaps, there’ll be different coloured checkmarks in the future?
