G-SHOCK Pays Homage To Thailand With A Collaboration Piece With Preduce Skateboards

No stranger to exotic collaborations, G-SHOCK turns its eyes to Southeast Asia, to the Kingdom of Thailand in particular, with a partnership with Thai skateboard brand, Preduce Skateboards in commemoration of Preduce’s 20th anniversary in 2022.

Designed by famed Preduce art director Thun “TRK” Puchpen, the base model of DW-5600 was dressed with the face of the Thai Guardian Giant represented in Thai mythology, believed to keep bad spirits away and its believers safe. He believes all skateboarders can benefit from all the protection they can get in high-adrenaline and high-risk sports. The guardian figure is also heavily featured in all his works that he has described as “new traditional”, serving as his signature design in terms of brand association.

The Colours and Patterns of Thailand

The watch borrows multiple colors and patterns typically found in Thai traditional paintings as found on temple walls. It’s a true homage to the culture and heritage of Thailand where ancient characters are often depicted wearing clothes of animal furs. The same animal print is translated onto the packaging of the watch in organic lines of green and black.

Black was chosen because it is the color of the Preduce brand, a color heavily applied to a host of its other designs too. Green, on the other hand, is the color of Bangkok, as seen on the official logo of Bangkok City. Colors and stripes are hence a nod to Thailand in the history of its past and the modernity of its present.
