Malaysia’s Cargo Ship Is Missing For 10 Days, Last Detected In Indonesian Waters

Where could the cargo ship be at the moment? Johor Maritime, through the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) Johor Bahru, received info from the MRSC Langkawi around 5.13 pm yesterday regarding the missing cargo ship MV Dai Cat 06 carrying steel pipes. The ship consists of five crews; three are locals, while the rest are Indonesians.

The report was received due to a police report made around 12.11 pm by the ship’s agent. They claimed the MV Dai Cat 06 departed from the jetty in Kampung Acheh, Perak, on 23 December 2022 and should arrive in Kuching on 31 December 2022. However, the cargo is still missing today.

The cargo ship is last spotted in Indonesian waters

The cargo ship’s last position was in Indonesian waters, detected by the Automatic Identification System (AIS) system on 1 January. The ship was 0.2 nautical miles from the Johor border.

However, yesterday at 10.42 pm, the cargo ship sent an Emergency Position Indicator Radio Beacon (EPIRB). The ship was 30 nautical miles northwest of Pemangkat waters in Indonesia.

Malaysia Mission Control Centre (MYMCC) and Police Operation Command Centre (POCC) Singapore were responsible for detecting the emergency signal sent by the missing cargo ship.

MRCC Putrajaya has informed Indonesian authorities to help with the search operation of the missing ship MV Dai Cat 06. Furthermore, MRSC Johor Bahru sent NAVTEXT welcomes additional information about the lost ship through the maritime community.
