Woman Shares How To Check If An Okra Is ‘Young’ Or ‘Old’

Okra is one of the vegetables that can be spotted in any supermarket in Malaysia. Although it is slimy, people still eat this vegetable as it is good if cooked in a certain way. For instance, what we can find in Malaysia is okra being mixed in asam pedas gravy. Yum!

However, some okras are not good to be eaten. Why? Due to its state being too overripe or ‘old,’ their deliciousness has gone. Therefore, when you go to the supermarket to buy okras, make sure you know which one to choose so that your cooking will be superb!

According to @vfreshplantation, there are three types of okras. She describes them as ‘young,’ ‘old’ and ‘too old.’ Let’s dig further into the okras.

1) ‘Young’ okra

  • If you look closely at the upper part of the vegetable, you will see a little hole in it.
  • If the hole is small (like a needle), you can use this okra for your cooking. It is good!

2) ‘Old’ okra

  • However, if the hole is slightly bigger than the previous one (like a pen’s ball), it is considered old.
  • Added @vfreshplantation, people usually buy this okra at the supermarket.

3) ‘Too old’

  • If the hole is bigger than that (like a satay’s skewer), the deliciousness of the okra has gone.
  • Thus, do not use it in your cooking.

This is such informative information for those who like vegetable. Now, go check on your okras!
