Let’s Try Making This Halal Version Of Bak Kut Teh

Bak Kut Teh is a type of dish that is cooked with traditional Chinese herbs. The name of the dish came from Hokkien dialect which means:

Bak –> meat

Kut –> bone

Teh –> tea

As the dish is usually prepared with pork, many of the non-Hokkein speakers assume that the dish’s name means ‘pork.’

However, they get it all wrong. What is meant by the name is that Chinese people cook pork with special herbs.

People will salivate just by looking at the picture of Bak Kut Teh. However, Muslims are not allowed to eat pork. Therefore, @soyabelacan on TikTok shares with us the recipe of Bak Kut Teh, but the halal version.

For additional information, @soyabelacan is Chinese and a Muslim. She often shares Chinese cooking recipes with her followers.

Now, let’s be amazed by her Bak Kut Teh recipe:

1) Mutton can be used as a substitute for pork. Make sure to use bony-mutton as the name of the dish.

2) Next, boil the mutton to cleanse them.

3) Put water in the pot.

4) Then, put garlic, shitakes, and herbs for making Bak Kut Teh. @soyabelacan recommends MasFood. Next, include the muttons as well.

5) When the water starts to boil, close the lid of the pot, and leave it for two hours. Do not forget to taste it with soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and oyster sauce.

6) 10 minutes before the two hours end, put vegetables like tofus, fu chuks, enoki mushrooms, or anything that you prefer.

Voilà! Bak Kut Teh is ready.

Thank you, @soyabelacan for the recipe.
