Asics Sportstyle Harnesses The Energy Of New York City To Craft The New Gel-Nyc™ Franchise

ASICS SportStyle announces the launch of the new GEL-NYC™ sneaker which was inspired by archived designs like the GEL-NIMBUS™ 3, GEL-MC PLUS™ V, and GEL-CUMULUS™ 16 shoes. These original design influences have been updated with modern materials and technologies to reflect the spirit of New York City.

ASICS running shoes from the early 2000s and the energy of New York City were influential for creating the GEL-NYC™ sneaker’s upper and color palette. The development for this project started with the GEL-NIMBUS™ 3 shoe and blended it with various embellishments from the GEL-MC PLUS™ V silhouette. These efforts allowed the SportStyle design team to reimagine the heritage sneaker with added dimension and new possibilities for color-blocking. The Black/Clay Grey, Cream/Steel Grey, and White/Ivy colorways feature muted, yet expressive palettes that reflect New York City’s iconic landmarks. The result of these reimagined features is a modern mashup of iconic running shoe design details from the ASICS archive to create something new.

For the midsole construction, the design team was intentional about choosing a shoe from the past ten years to contrast, yet still complement the upper. By using the GEL-CUMULUS™ 16 shoe’s tooling system, this sneaker features a modernized aesthetic and better cushioning properties. As a result, its combination of lightweight foams and rearfoot and forefoot GEL™ technology inserts create a softer and more comfortable underfoot feel

The GEL-NYC™ sneaker will be available on asics.com and in select stores for RM 479.
