The Malaysia ICT Summit 2023 Opens With Robust Dialogues In Connectivity And Ultra-Broadband With A Renewed Commitment To Bridging The Digital Divide

The Malaysian ICT Summit 2023 curtain raiser began with a 5G Summit that saw regulators talking about what is needed to accelerate the adoption of 5G in the country, bridging the digital divide and the need for sustainability in achieving these goals.

The Summit is organised by Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd with GSMA as the industry partner.

The opening address at the 5G Summit was delivered by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah bin Mohd Yunus, Chief Operating Officer of the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today.

“Being the regulator in this era of change is always challenging. There is a delicate balance to strike. Our duty is to protect our rakyat and the consumer. At the same time, regulation should not stifle the space that businesses need to remain competitive and to thrive,” said Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah.

Mr Emmanuel Coelho Alves, Global Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Wireless Product Line, shared the global industry updates for 5G, stressing: “There is a rising trend for consumer services becoming more interactive and immersive and for business scenarios becoming fully connected and sychronized under the 5G enablement effect.”

Mr Zac Chow, Vice President of Huawei Malaysia, emphasised that Huawei has been in Malaysia for over 22 years and has played a part in accelerating innovation to drive the ICT ecosystem.

“We want to do our part in contributing to social and economic development. For us, we believe that technology is fundamentally good, and that the value it creates should be shared and passed on. As a leading ICT solutions provider, we are fully committed to playing our part in building the industry infrastructure and ecosystem towards ensuring Malaysia’s position as the ASEAN Digital Capital,” he said in his welcome speech at the 5G Summit, the first of the two summit sessions held today.

The two-day Malaysia ICT Summit 2023 commenced with the 5G Summit and Ultra-Broadband Summit at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur with the theme “Digital Malaysia, Green Growth”.

More than 300 industry professionals, enterprise leaders and ecosystem partners from various segments within the ICT industry attended the first day of the Summit.

Speakers at the 5G Summit segment of the event included representatives from the GSMA, PETRONAS, Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Centre, PT. BOE Technology Indonesia, and True Thailand.

The Ultra-Broadband Summit boasted a speaker line-up of representatives from the World Broadband Association (WBBA), the APAC v6 Council, RHB Bank, Telekom Malaysia, CMI Malaysia, and Maxis.

Day 2 of the Malaysia ICT Summit will comprise three concurrent morning sessions – the Cloud Summit, the Green Energy Summit and a closed-door Digital Operation Transformation CXO Roundtable with the highlight of the Summit culminating in a closing address by Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
