With the aim of providing women from underserved communities with the opportunity to upskill and realise their potential to #JadiLebihLadi, Sunlight Malaysia announces the culmination of its inaugural Tangan Tangan Terer programme which was launched in partnership with Ibupreneur Malaysia in July 2023.

Sunlight has been actively championing a woman’s right to pursue her ambitions and launched its Tangan Tangan Terer programme with the belief that women are made for more. Just as how with Sunlight, ‘one drop is enough’ for a grease-free dishwashing experience, Sunlight hopes to partner women to lighten the load of their household responsibilities and to help them unlock time to achieve greater things.

“We are heartened to celebrate the graduation of these eight inspirational women as they took the opportunity to realize their dreams and ambition, believing that they are made for more than their familial or household commitments. We firmly believe that through this programme, more women will be inspired through these graduates to reach the stars and they too will be empowered to embark on a transformative journey to reinvent their future and pursue sustainable livelihoods,” said Homecare Lead for Unilever Malaysia and Singapore, Hong Ee Fen.

Providing women with more options to upskill

Tangan Tangan Terer programme, which is supported by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, was met with an overwhelming response from Malaysians and saw a total of 395 applications nationwide.

Out of the hundreds of applicants, eight aspiring female entrepreneurs were handpicked to participate in the programme which consisted of ten educational modules designed to give them a hand-on experience into product development, digital marketing, financial management, legal and sales, among others.

Nur Nadhirah, founder of Nurhalwa.co, a business which sells tudung bawal, is one of the top three finalists of the Tangan Tangan Terer programme. She noted how the programme has allowed her to transform a business idea into reality by giving her the opportunity to develop the entrepreneurship skillsets needed to establish her business through practical hands-on modules taught by industry experts.

“I learned a lot through this programme and it was a humbling journey to go through the training alongside the other participants. I learned more about my own personal strengths and gained valuable insights on how to improve on my weaknesses which will help me in my entrepreneurship journey,” said Nur Nadhirah, a housewife and mother of one.

Phase two of Tangan Tangan Terer programme begins in April

On the back of a successful inaugural launch of the Tangan Tangan Terer programme, Sunlight Malaysia will soon be kickstarting its second installment of the programme, with a call for participation from April 2024 onwards, with more details to follow.

The programme aims to reach 800 Malaysian women, giving them more opportunities to upskill for the betterment of their family, and providing them with an avenue to contribute to the community and nation.
