MIEA Celebrates 77 Champions At The 16th National Real Estate Awards, Spotlighting Industry Resilience And Innovation

The Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) honoured 77 exemplary real estate professionals at the 16th National Real Estate Awards (NREA) held at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur. This year’s theme, “Juara Night: Simply for the Best Achievers,” underscored the resilience and innovation within Malaysia’s real estate sector, spotlighting those who have excelled despite a rapidly evolving market.

The ceremony, graced by the Chief Minister of Selangor, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Haji Amirudin bin Shari, celebrated winners across 31 categories. 

Amirudin said, “Malaysia is expected to experience robust growth in real estate sector in 2024. The Klang Valley would significantly leverage the surge of property market as an engine of the growth in nation.  The awards not only celebrate those at the pinnacle of their profession but also highlight the diverse experiences and contributions of practitioners at all levels. With high level of professionalism and exposure by the practitioners in the industry, apart offering new job creation and rendering quality services, on the hand may attract more local and foreign investors to venture in our nation.”.

Guest of Honour of the National Real Estate Awards (NREA) 2024, Chief Minister of Selangor,
Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Haji Amirudin bin Shari expects Malaysia to experience robust growth in the real estate sector in 2024, with Klang Valley significantly leveraging the property market surge as an engine of national growth.

In a year marked by unprecedented growth, the Malaysian property market reached a historic milestone in 2023, achieving nearly RM 200 billion in transaction value from approximately 399,000 property transactions, as reported by NAPIC. This significant achievement highlights the crucial role of real estate practitioners in driving the nation’s economic development.

Reflecting this market dynamism, the NREA 2024 received a record-breaking 125 submissions, a significant increase from last year’s edition. This surge in participation underscores the industry’s competitiveness and commitment to excellence.

Hj Ahmad Zamzuri, the organizing chairman, highlighted that the remarkable growth in NREA’s participation proves the competitiveness and relentless pursuit for excellence by fellow practitioners which reflects the industry’s dynamic nature.

Hj Ahmad Zamzuri, the NREA 2024 organizing chairman, emphasized the ethical standards in the industry and concluded the record-breaking result for overall performance.

“The remarkable growth in NREA’s participation proves the competitiveness and relentless pursuit for excellence by our fellow practitioners which reflects the industry’s dynamic nature. Our strict judging criteria ensure that we recognise not only top sales performances but also the adoption of ethical and professional standards, exemplary work, contributions to the profession and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).” 

“This year, we have a total of 77 winners, surpassing last year’s total of 65. This includes 23 MIEA Million Dollar Award (MMDA) recipients, nearly doubling the previous year’s number. I believe this represent the calibre of exceptional talent within our industry,” he added.

The prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dato Ir Sr Alex Ting Kuang Kuo, Managing Director of Kozin Real Estate Sdn Bhd, for his over 25 years of significant contributions to Malaysia’s property landscape, particularly in Kuching.

Among the honourees, Datuk Sr Paul Khong Poh Yew, Group Managing Director and Head of Savills Malaysia, was named Real Estate Agent of the Year 2024. Recognized for his over 25 years of experience in the property industry, Datuk Sr Paul exemplifies leadership and dedication in the industry.

This year, a new category, Land Sales of the Year, was introduced, with Lawrenc Hii Hiang Hui of The Roof Realty Sdn Bhd receiving the inaugural award for concluding a land sale worth over RM 50 million.

As MIEA celebrates its 50th anniversary, President Tan Kian Aun reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting professionalism and integrity among real estate practitioners.

President of MIEA, Tan Kian Aun emphasized that the organization’s remain it’s pledge to ensuring estate agents and RENs are registered and practice with competency, balancing the best interests of clients with the protection of the public’s interest despite changes in industry regulations.

Tan said, “Despite changes in industry regulations, MIEA remains steadfast in its pledge to ensure all estate agents and RENs are registered and practice with competency, balancing the best interests of clients with the protection of the public’s interest”.

He also shared an optimistic outlook for the property market, predicting stability and increased demand in the second half of 2024 and 2025, driven by major infrastructure developments initiated by the Malaysian government.

The event was supported by UOB Malaysia as the preferred mortgage partner, with PropertyGuru and iProperty as preferred property platforms. Premier sponsors included Sime Darby Auto Bavaria Sdn Bhd, TRITERRA Sdn Bhd, and Central Spectrum Sdn Bhd.
