Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Brings 20 Years of Summit Expertise to Centre Stage for 46th ASEAN Summit

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 May 2025 – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) is honoured to be selected as the official venue for the 46th Asean Summit on May 26 and 27, reaffirming its two-decade legacy as Malaysia’s most trusted stage for large-scale multilateral engagements.

As Malaysia’s premier venue, the Centre has successfully hosted security-sensitive gatherings like the 12th ASEAN Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (AFMGM), the KL Summit in 2022 and the United Nations’ 9th World Urban Forum in 2018. Despite risks of financial espionage and cyber threats, the Centre’s robust protocols have ensured zero security breaches for attendees, which included world leaders, government officials, diplomats and governors.

“The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is more than a venue. It is a national asset that actively supports Malaysia’s global positioning. Through world-class service, integrated infrastructure, and a unique location within the Kuala Lumpur City Centre precinct, our 34,000 sqm purpose-built venue is continuously evolving to provide the perfect environment for high-level regional engagement and collaboration. We are fully equipped to deliver a seamless experience and zero delays for the thousands of delegates attending the upcoming 46th ASEAN Summit,” said John Burke, General Manager of the Centre.

Hosting landmark events like the Asean Summit and the AFMGM demands far more than just space. Nestled beneath the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the Centre delivers unmatched convenience with direct access to five on-site hotels and over 22,000 rooms–from luxury to budget–within walking distance.

The surrounding Kuala Lumpur City Centre Precinct boasts over 350 dining establishments, climate-controlled pedestrian links to both Suria KLCC and the wider Kuala Lumpur-triangle, seamless integration with KLCC Park’s urban green spaces, as well as direct links to public transport.

With two decades of operational expertise, the Centre has established itself as a leader in executing events of all sizes, from high-capacity summits to intimate gatherings. A crucial competitive advantage lies in its unique combination of attributes rarely found in international convention centres, including Malaysia’s largest halal-certified commercial kitchens. This in-house capability offers a distinct edge over venues that rely entirely on external catering services.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the Centre’s value proposition includes institutionalised security protocols developed through close collaboration with senior police officials, traffic authorities, and specialised security personnel. This end-to-end operational mastery, combining culinary capabilities, controlled environments, and safety assurance, creates an unmatched proposition for international delegates seeking both efficiency and hospitality.

To stay at the forefront of the global business events industry, the Centre is constantly evolving and has introduced advanced technological enhancements tailored to the evolving needs of international clients. Recent enhancements include state-of-the-art LED displays, next-generation audio-visual systems, and AI-powered smart room controls. Complementing these are enterprise-grade cybersecurity protocols and ISO-certified sustainable event practices, positioning the Centre at the cutting edge of secure, responsible hosting.

These strategic investments not only demonstrate the Centre’s commitment to innovation and adaptability but also set new standards for excellence as ASEAN’s premier convention venue with proven capabilities to deliver future-ready solutions for the world’s most sophisticated gatherings, including the 46th Asean Summit.

Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre holds the distinction of being Malaysia’s only venue to host multiple ASEAN Summits (2005, 2015). Its legacy includes facilitating over 22,000 events, welcoming 29 million visitors, and generating RM12.6 billion in economic impact since its opening in 2005. The Centre has served for two decades as Malaysia’s strategic platform for global engagement, consistently converting events into tangible national benefits and international visibility.
